Fan Week and qualifying, from August 23
Before the main draw, Fan Week opens the site as early as August 23. It begins with Arthur Ashe Kids' Day on August 23, then continues with free qualifying, around August 24 to 27, where the players to watch often emerge.
Fan Week also hosts a reimagined Mixed Doubles format. It is a more relaxed window, ideal for a first look at the site before the intensity of the fortnight.
Week 1: the early rounds
Week 1, roughly August 30 to September 4, strings together the early rounds, from the first to the third. This is when the most courts are active at once, from the show courts to the outer courts.
A day-session ticket on Arthur Ashe (start around 11am, two to three matches) also gives grounds access to the outer courts: it is the ideal formula for moving around and seeing plenty of tennis. Night sessions, around 7pm, offer two marquee matches in the most sought-after atmosphere of the fortnight.
Week 2: round of 16, quarters, semis
Week 2 tightens the draw. The round of 16 takes place on the second Monday and Tuesday, followed by the quarterfinals on Tuesday and Wednesday. The line-up then concentrates on Arthur Ashe and the main courts.
The semifinals follow: women's semis on Thursday, men's semis on Friday. This is the stretch where each session becomes a major occasion, and where the choice of date matters most.
The finals weekend and choosing sessions
The women's final is on Saturday, September 12, the men's final on Sunday, September 13. Finals days are a single session, with no day/night split.
For the rest of the fortnight, Arthur Ashe sells separate day and night sessions. The day session (two to three matches, grounds access to the outer courts included) suits those who want to see plenty of tennis; the night session (two marquee matches, the most glamorous atmosphere) is the most in demand.
