Where to Stay During Art Basel Miami Beach?
Facing the ocean, in the calm further north, on an island in the bay or on the mainland: the choice of address decides your journeys.

For Art Basel Miami Beach, the right choice depends on your days. South Beach, around Collins Park, puts the Miami Beach Convention Center a few minutes away, on foot or by car. Mid-Beach offers more calm facing the ocean, a short distance away. Surfside and Bal Harbour, further north, suit those who prefer serenity. A private villa on the islands of the bay allows you to entertain. Brickell and downtown Miami, on the mainland, bring you closer to the bayfront satellite fairs but mean crossing the causeways. During the week, everything is booked months in advance, often with a minimum stay; every stay is quoted on request.
The golden rule: choose your shore
Miami Beach is a barrier island, separated from Miami by Biscayne Bay and linked to the mainland by a handful of causeways. During Miami Art Week, these causeways saturate at peak hours. The address you choose therefore decides, more than anywhere else, how much time you will spend in a car.
If the fair and the evenings in Miami Beach are at the heart of your programme, stay on the island. If you mainly plan to visit the mainland fairs, the Design District, Wynwood or the downtown museums, an address on the Miami side can make sense. Either way, a chauffeur who knows the causeways makes the difference.

The neighbourhoods, compared
The table below summarises the options. Hotels are cited for illustration, with no partnership; their availability during the week is checked case by case.
| Area | Atmosphere | Distance to the fair | For whom |
|---|---|---|---|
| South Beach (Collins Park, Lincoln Road) | Lively, Art Deco, at the heart of the week | A few minutes | Those who want to do almost everything on foot |
| Mid-Beach | Calmer, grand hotels facing the ocean | A short drive | Those who alternate the fair and rest |
| Surfside and Bal Harbour | Peaceful, residential, wide beaches | Further north, allow for the journey | Those who put serenity first |
| Islands of the bay (villas) | Private, discreet, water views | Varies by island | Those who entertain or travel as a group |
| Brickell and downtown Miami | Urban, towers on the bay | Across the causeways | Those mainly visiting the mainland fairs |
South Beach: as close to the fair as possible
The Miami Beach Convention Center stands at the northern end of South Beach, facing Collins Park and The Bass museum. Staying a few streets away lets you walk to the fair, return to change between two appointments and avoid the causeways for much of the day.
The neighbourhood, very lively during the week, has hotels of every size, from Art Deco properties to contemporary addresses — The Miami Beach EDITION or 1 Hotel South Beach, for illustration. The downside: the bustle, and very crowded surroundings around the fair during opening hours.

Mid-Beach, Surfside, Bal Harbour: serenity facing the ocean
Further north, Mid-Beach lines up grand hotels facing the ocean — the Faena Hotel Miami Beach or The Setai, a little further south, cited for illustration — and is a few minutes' drive from the fair outside peak hours. It is often a sound balance between access and calm.
Surfside and Bal Harbour, further north still, offer wider beaches and a residential atmosphere: the Four Seasons Hotel at The Surf Club or The St. Regis Bal Harbour, for illustration. The journey to the fair needs planning, but in the evening you find genuine tranquillity.
Private villas and addresses for entertaining
For a group, a family or anyone wishing to entertain during the week, a private villa is often the right answer: the residential islands of the bay, between Miami Beach and the mainland, offer waterfront houses, some with a private dock. We select them according to capacity, the staff you would like — chef, butler, security — and the distance to your appointments.
During Miami Art Week, sought-after villas are booked early, with minimum stays common. The quote depends on the house, the length of stay and the services; it is set out for you element by element.

When to book, and how
For early December, the autumn is the right window. Oceanfront suites and villas go several months ahead; a few weeks before the fair, you work with what remains. Cancellation terms are often stricter during the week: we present them to you before any commitment.
Our method: start from your programme — fair days, satellite fairs, evenings — to choose the shore, then the address, then the category. Our guide How to Get to Art Basel Miami Beach? completes that choice, and our guide What to Do During Miami Art Week? helps you sketch out the week.
