Where to Stay During the Venice Biennale?
A city on the water, where the address decides every journey: as close as possible to the Giardini, on the Grand Canal, or facing the city on the Giudecca.

For the Venice Biennale, the right choice depends on your days. Castello, along the Riva degli Schiavoni, puts the Giardini and the Arsenale a few minutes away on foot or by boat; the Hotel Danieli, set in a fourteenth-century palazzo, is its historic address, cited for illustration. The Grand Canal, between San Marco and Dorsoduro, brings the city and the foundations within reach — The Gritti Palace or Aman Venice, cited for illustration. The Giudecca, facing the city, offers calm, with a boat to cross over. A rented palazzo with staff and a private landing stage lets you entertain. The opening weeks, in May, are in high demand. Every stay is quoted on request.
The golden rule: in Venice, the address decides the journey
In Venice, there is no car to make up for a poorly chosen address. Every journey is made on foot, by vaporetto or by boat, and a room at the other end of the city can add an hour to each day. Choosing the address is therefore the first choice of the stay.
The Biennale lasts six months, and demand is not the same throughout the season: the opening weeks, in May, and spring weekends are the hardest fought; summer and autumn leave more choice. Cancellation terms and minimum stays vary by address and period: we present them to you before any commitment.

The districts, compared
The table below summarises the options. Hotels are cited for illustration, with no partnership; their availability is checked case by case.
| Area | Atmosphere | Distance to the Giardini and the Arsenale | For whom |
|---|---|---|---|
| Castello (Riva degli Schiavoni) | Quays on the basin, as close as it gets | A few minutes on foot or by boat | Those who want to do almost everything on foot |
| San Marco and the Grand Canal | Historic heart, palazzi on the water | About ten minutes by boat | Those who want the city and the foundations |
| Dorsoduro | Foundations, museums, calmer | About fifteen minutes by boat | Those who want art on their doorstep |
| Giudecca | Facing the city, gardens, silence | A boat crossing, to be planned | Those who love calm and the water |
| Rented private palazzo | Staff, landing stage, receptions | Depending on the address | Families, groups, those who entertain |
Castello: as close as possible to the Giardini and the Arsenale
The Giardini and the Arsenale are in Castello, in the east of the city. Staying along the Riva degli Schiavoni lets you reach both venues on foot along the Basin of St Mark, or in a few minutes by boat. The Hotel Danieli, set in the Palazzo Dandolo, built in the fourteenth century, is the historic address on this quay; it is cited for illustration.
The drawback: crowded quays at busy times, particularly during the opening weeks. A boat with a pilot avoids them, arriving directly at the landing stages.

The Grand Canal, San Marco and Dorsoduro
On the Grand Canal, palazzi turned hotels bring the whole city within reach. The Gritti Palace, residence of Doge Andrea Gritti in the sixteenth century, or Aman Venice, set in the Palazzo Papadopoli, a sixteenth-century palazzo surrounded by gardens, are two examples, cited for illustration.
Dorsoduro, on the opposite bank, brings together Punta della Dogana and the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, a few steps from each other. People stay there to be near the foundations and for a relative calm; the Giardini are about fifteen minutes away by boat.
The Giudecca, and the private palazzo
The Giudecca, a long island facing the Zattere and San Marco, offers another rhythm: gardens, silence, a view of the city. The Belmond Hotel Cipriani, at its tip, runs a boat shuttle to the Piazzetta San Marco; it is cited for illustration. With a dedicated boat, the Giardini are a short crossing away.
For a family, a group or a stay where you entertain, a palazzo rented for the length of the stay changes everything: staff, kitchen, salons, sometimes a garden, and a private landing stage where the boat awaits you. We select these addresses according to your programme and check every condition before any commitment.

When to book, and how
For the opening weeks, in May 2027, it is better to book from the preceding winter; some addresses go even earlier. For summer and autumn, the margin is wider, but the fine rooms on the Grand Canal remain sought after all season.
Our method: start from your programme — Giardini, Arsenale, foundations, evenings — to choose the district, then the address, then the category. Our guide How to Get to the Venice Biennale? completes this choice, and our guide What to See at the Venice Biennale? helps you sketch out the days.
