Where to Stay During Watches and Wonders in Geneva?

The lake quays, the old town, the airport or an hour away: the choice of address shapes your days between Palexpo and the centre.

Last updated 6 October 2026 · 4 min read

In short

For Watches and Wonders, the right choice depends on your days and on availability. The right bank, around Cornavin station and along the lake quays, is the practical choice: the train reaches the airport and Palexpo in a few minutes, and the grand historic hotels line the water — the Hôtel des Bergues, opened in 1834, or the Beau-Rivage, opened in 1865 and still family-run, cited for illustration. The old town and the left bank offer more charm; the area around the airport puts you right next to the salon. During the week, rooms go early, often with a minimum stay. When Geneva is full, Lausanne, the shores of Lake Geneva or neighbouring Haute-Savoie offer fine alternatives, with a chauffeur for the journeys. Every stay is quoted on request.

01

The golden rule: two poles, an address chosen early

Watches and Wonders is experienced between two poles: Palexpo, in Le Grand-Saconnex, next to the airport, and the centre of Geneva, where In The City, the boutiques and many of the dinners take place. The ideal address is the one that serves your days: chiefly the salon, chiefly the city, or both.

During the week, the sought-after addresses are booked early; cancellation conditions tighten, and minimum stays are common. You therefore need to choose early, and be prepared to widen the circle if necessary. The good news: Geneva is compact and well connected, and high-quality addresses can be found an hour away or less, on the shores of Lake Geneva.

The options, compared

The table below summarises the options. Hotels are cited for illustration, without any partnership; their availability during the week is checked case by case.

The right bank and the quays: the right balance

Along the Quai du Mont-Blanc and the Quai des Bergues, Geneva's grand hotels face the lake and the Jet d'Eau. The Hôtel des Bergues, opened in 1834, is one of the city's long-standing hotels; the Beau-Rivage, opened in 1865 on the Quai du Mont-Blanc, has remained a family-run, independent house. They are cited for illustration, and their rooms for the week go early.

From there, Cornavin station is a few minutes away, and the train reaches Geneva Airport station, next to Palexpo, in a few minutes more. It is often the right balance between access to the salon and the life of the centre, provided you book well in advance.

04

The old town, the left bank, the airport area

On the left bank, the old town and its narrow streets, and the districts of galleries and boutiques, offer a more intimate Geneva. The journey to Palexpo is a little longer, but a chauffeur makes it simple, and you are at the heart of the dinners and evening appointments.

Conversely, the hotels around the airport put the salon a few minutes' walk away. They suit those who devote the bulk of their stay to Palexpo, or who arrive and leave by private jet, with logistics kept to a minimum.

05

Lausanne, Lake Geneva, Haute-Savoie: when Geneva is full

Lausanne is less than an hour from Geneva by train, with frequent connections, some of which serve the airport station directly. It has grand hotels beside the lake, and you can reach the salon in the morning, by train or with a chauffeur. It is a common alternative for those who book late.

Closer by, the residential communes on the shores of Lake Geneva offer houses to rent for the week, with staff, which also make it possible to entertain. On the French side, the south shore of the lake and Haute-Savoie offer houses of character and hotels in the open air, to be composed according to distance. In every case, a chauffeur handles the morning journeys and the evening returns, border included.

06

When to book, and how

For early April, the preceding autumn and winter are the right window; addresses on the quays often go even earlier. A few weeks before the salon, you work with what remains — which, with a chauffeur, still leaves fine options nearby. Cancellation conditions are often stricter during the week: we present them to you before any commitment.

Our method: start from your programme — salon day, In The City, dinners — to choose between the city and its surroundings, then the address, then the category.
