How to Get to the Goodwood Festival of Speed?

A park in the countryside, roads signposted from first light, an aerodrome on the estate: helicopter, train or chauffeur, every arrival is planned.

In short

The Goodwood Festival of Speed is held near Chichester, in West Sussex, some sixty miles south-west of London. By helicopter or light aircraft, Goodwood Aerodrome, on the estate, receives flights during the festival, subject to prior permission and allocated slots, from 7.30am to 7pm; handling and transfer to the festival are included. By train, Chichester is reached in around an hour and a half from London Waterloo, with a change at Havant, or directly from Victoria; a shuttle links the station to the festival from 7am to 8pm. By car with a chauffeur, you follow the route signposted by the organiser, not the satnav. By jet, you land at a business aviation airport in the south of England, then the helicopter takes over.

01

The short answer: arrive early, or arrive by air

The festival opens its gates at 7am, and the runs begin at 8.30am. The country roads leading to the estate fill very early, then again at the end of the day. Two approaches work: leave at dawn by road, or avoid the road.

Goodwood has a rare asset: an aerodrome on the estate, a few minutes from the park. It is often the key to a day without waiting. We coordinate everything, from your point of departure to your seat, with a fallback option.

02

By helicopter or light aircraft: Goodwood Aerodrome

During the festival, Goodwood Aerodrome, on the estate, receives helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft no longer than twelve metres, on three runways, with air traffic control, fuel and a ground team. Arrivals are by prior permission only, through a slot allocation process; the aerodrome is open from 7.30am to 7pm during the event, with no night lighting — no departures after dusk.

Ground handling and transfer to the festival are included in the landing fee. From London or an airport, the helicopter avoids every approach road; we book the flight and the slot, and always plan a road option should the weather require it.

03

By train: Chichester, then the shuttle

The festival's station is Chichester. From London, the usual journey leaves from Waterloo with a change at Havant, taking around an hour and a half; direct trains also leave from Victoria. At Chichester, a shuttle links the station to the festival from 7am to 8pm.

It is a reliable arrival, which avoids the morning roads. A chauffeur can drop you at the London station, and another wait for you at Chichester to spare you the shuttle queue; we arrange both.

04

By car with a chauffeur

On festival days, access follows a road network planned by the organiser, which directs each vehicle to its car park; Goodwood asks visitors not to follow their satnav. The grass car parks open at 6.30am; taxis and drop-off cars go to Gate 1. Most of Goodwood's hospitality packages include parking on site, sometimes very close by.

A dedicated chauffeur remains the simple way to spend several days: departure timed to the traffic, drop-off at the right point for your package, return at your hour. For a group, a second vehicle avoids waiting.

05

By private jet

Goodwood Aerodrome receives only aircraft no longer than twelve metres: a business jet lands at an airport in the south of England — Farnborough, dedicated to business aviation, for example — then a helicopter continues to Goodwood. During festival week, slots are planned early.

We coordinate the flight, the welcome, the transfer by helicopter or by car, and the return, taking account of the aerodrome's closing time.
