How do you get to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix?
Arriving in Abu Dhabi, the road from Dubai, the circuit's access points and leaving on Sunday evening: the logistics of a weekend without waiting.
Last updated 5 October 2026 · 3 min read
You reach Abu Dhabi via Zayed International Airport (AUH), close to Yas Island, or by business aviation via Zayed International or Al Bateen Executive Airport. From Dubai, allow about one to one and a half hours by road depending on traffic. On site, the organiser runs shuttles from the Yas Island car parks; for a private stay, a dedicated chauffeur who knows the access points and exit times handles the essentials. Yas Marina also lets you arrive by sea, by yacht, subject to availability. The tricky moment is leaving on Sunday evening, after the race and the concert: it needs planning.
Arriving in Abu Dhabi
Zayed International Airport (AUH) — formerly Abu Dhabi International Airport, renamed in February 2024 — is the natural point of arrival: it is close to Yas Island and has direct flights to many capitals, including Paris. Dubai's airports are an alternative, with one to one and a half hours by road to Yas Island depending on traffic.
For a private flight, two options: the business aviation terminals at Zayed International, or Al Bateen Executive Airport, an airport dedicated to business aviation, south-east of the city centre. The choice depends on your hotel, the size of the aircraft and the slots available over race weekend, when traffic is heavy.
| Option | Strength | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|
| Scheduled flight to Zayed International (AUH) | Close to Yas Island | Meet-and-greet and chauffeur to arrange on arrival |
| Private jet via Zayed International | Proximity to Yas Island | Slots in high demand over the weekend |
| Private jet via Al Bateen | Airport dedicated to business aviation, close to the centre | Further from Yas Island; suited to a hotel in the city |
| Flight to Dubai, then by road | Wide choice of flights | About one to one and a half hours by road depending on traffic |
| Yacht to Yas Marina | Arrive and watch from the deck | Berths are rare, to be booked early |

From Dubai: the road, and its timings
Many visitors stay in Dubai and come for the day. The journey is along the coastal motorway; allow about one to one and a half hours depending on traffic, longer at rush hour and on Sunday evening. Buses link the two cities, but for a private visitor, a dedicated chauffeur spares the waiting and the connections.
Our advice: for a single race day, a night in Abu Dhabi avoids a late return on the motorway. For a stay in Dubai with one Grand Prix day, we time the departure and return around the race and the concert.
Circuit access and shuttles
At the 2025 edition, free shuttles linked the Yas Island car parks, including the one at Yas Mall, to the circuit, and a loop shuttle served the various grandstands. The 2026 arrangements will be published by the organiser as the race approaches; we check them for you.
For a private chauffeur, everything comes down to access: each grandstand, each hospitality suite and the Paddock Club has its own entrance, and drop-off points change according to the weekend's traffic plan. Your chauffeur receives the plan, the drop-off point and the pick-up point before race day.

Leaving on Sunday evening
This is the tricky moment of the weekend: the race finishes after dark, the season finale holds the spectators, then the evening concert begins. Tens of thousands of people leave the island at the same time.
We plan this exit as a stage in its own right: an agreed pick-up point, a fallback route, waiting time built in, a table booked on the island to let the crowd pass, or a return via the marina when possible. You have nothing to decide on the spot.
The yacht: arriving by sea
Yas Marina welcomes yachts during the Grand Prix, some moored with a view of part of the circuit. Arriving by yacht means avoiding the road and watching the race from the deck; it is also a rare option, to be booked early.
We look into chartering a crewed yacht, from Abu Dhabi or Dubai, or a day on board, subject to availability and the marina's rules. Our guide How do you attend the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix? compares the yacht with the other places.

It depends on your nationality. Many travellers, including European Union nationals, enter without a prior visa for a short stay, but the rules change: check them with the Emirati authorities before departure.
