What Is the Dress Code for the Monaco Red Cross Gala?

Dinner jacket required, evening gown, a hall open to a July night: what the evening asks for, and how to dress for the rest of the stay.

Last updated 5 October 2026 · 3 min read

In short

The dress code for the Monaco Red Cross Gala is formal: dinner jacket (black tie) required and evening gown, according to the practical information published for the 2026 edition. For men, a black or midnight-blue dinner jacket, white shirt, black bow tie and patent shoes; for women, a full-length evening gown. It is a benefit evening, in the presence of the Sovereign Prince: elegance remains understated. In the middle of July, the heat matters — light fabrics, careful alterations, a stole for the cool of the evening by the sea. For the rest of the stay, Monaco dresses with care, without excess.

01

What the dress code says

The formula published for 2026 is clear: « Smoking de rigueur – Robe du soir » — dinner jacket required, evening gown. This is formal evening dress, just below white tie in the order of convention, what English invitations call black tie. The Monaco Red Cross Gala sets no theme: it asks for correct attire, not a costume.

It is a benefit evening, held in the presence of the Sovereign Prince, president of the association. The register is one of understated elegance: one comes to support a cause, not to be noticed. The 2027 terms will be published with the edition; we confirm them for you.

02

For men: the dinner jacket

A black or midnight-blue dinner jacket, with satin or grosgrain lapels, and matching trousers with a braid; a white shirt with a pleated or piqué front or a wing collar, and cufflinks; a black bow tie, preferably self-tied; patent shoes or perfectly polished Oxfords. The white jacket, customary at summer evenings in warm climates, is sometimes worn: we advise you according to the tone of the edition.

In July, a lightweight wool or a breathable blend changes everything. Alterations are made before you arrive; a final adjustment in your suite, on the afternoon of the gala, takes care of the rest.

03

For women: the evening gown

A full-length evening gown, in a fabric that falls well and copes with the heat — silk, crêpe, chiffon. Colours are open; the understated tone of the evening favours clean lines over effect. A stole or a light jacket accompanies the evening: the hall opens onto the sea, and the night grows cool.

Shoes should allow you to stand through the arrival, the cocktail hour and the fireworks. Jewellery, clutch, hair: we time the hair and make-up appointments to the hour of departure, in your suite.

July in Monaco: dressing for the heat

The challenge of the gala is the season: formal evening dress, a July night, a full hall. Natural, light fabrics, minimal linings and a spare shirt at the hotel make the difference. We arrange express pressing the day before and the morning of the gala.

The rest of the stay is lived between the sea and the terraces. On a yacht, you go barefoot or in pale-soled shoes; in several gastronomic restaurants, a jacket is still required for men; at Jimmy'z, the gala attire is right for carrying on the evening.

What we prepare for you

A dedicated stylist prepares the looks for the stay before you arrive — the gala, the dinners, the days at sea — with fittings and alterations in your suite, hire or purchase as you prefer. On the day of the gala, hair and make-up are timed to the hour of departure; the stylist stays until you are at the door.

This service applies whether or not you have your place at the gala: a dinner on a terrace that same evening is also lived in evening dress. Our Monaco Red Cross Gala VIP page presents the whole stay.
