The evening, access, the exhibition, the stay: everything we are asked about the Met Gala, with candid answers — including when the answer is no.

The Met Gala is the benefit evening of the Costume Institute at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, on the first Monday in May; the 2027 date and theme have not yet been published. The evening is by invitation, with no place sold to the public: TGZ provides no access to it. The exhibition it opens welcomes the public a few days later, with a museum admission ticket. What can be composed is the New York week around it: a hotel on Fifth Avenue or in the Upper East Side, tables, private evenings, a stylist, the exhibition visit — on a tailored quote.
The evening
The Met Gala — the Costume Institute Benefit — is held each first Monday in May by The Metropolitan Museum of Art, for the benefit of its Costume Institute, of which it is the main source of annual funding. It gathers several hundred guests for a cocktail reception, a first viewing of the exhibition and a dinner. The first evening dates back to 1948: a midnight supper conceived by the publicist Eleanor Lambert.
For 2027, the museum announced in late August 2026 that the theme and the evening would be announced at a later date. The evening will take place in May 2027; we will update our guides as soon as it is announced.

Access
The guest list is set by the museum and the editors of Vogue; the houses that take a table invite their guests, subject to approval. No place is sold to the public. TGZ Conciergerie, an independent house, provides no access and does not approach the organisers. Our guide How the Met Gala Invitation Works details how it really works.
The exhibition
The Costume Institute's spring exhibition opens to the public a few days after the evening — on 10 May in 2025 as in 2026 — and stays open for several months. It is visited with a museum admission ticket. Our guide Visiting the Costume Institute Exhibition details the visit.

The stay
The week is composed around the evening: a suite on Fifth Avenue or in the Upper East Side, tables held at the right hours, a private evening on gala night, a stylist, the exhibition visit. Our guide Where to Stay for the Met Gala compares the addresses, and our guide The Met Gala Dress Code prepares the looks.
