A benefit evening, a museum on Wilshire Boulevard, a weekend in Los Angeles: the complete guide, with what can be booked and what cannot.

The Academy Museum Gala is the annual benefit evening of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, the film museum of Los Angeles, on Wilshire Boulevard. Its sixth edition will take place on Saturday 17 October 2026; it supports the museum's exhibitions, screenings and education programmes. Tables and seats are offered by the museum itself, as part of its fundraising, usually to studios, houses and companies that invite their own guests; there is no public box office. A private visitor lives the stay around it: a hotel in Beverly Hills or a villa in the hills, a chauffeur, tables, a private evening, and a visit to the museum on a day when it is open to the public.
What is the Academy Museum Gala?
It is the evening the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures holds each year to fund its mission: its exhibitions, its screenings and its education programmes. The museum, under the aegis of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, opened its doors to the public on 30 September 2021; the first gala accompanied its inauguration. Since then, the evening has returned every autumn, and the museum honours figures from the world of film.
The evening is held at the museum itself, on its Wilshire Boulevard campus. It brings together the film industry — studios, filmmakers, performers — and many fashion and jewellery houses, which take tables and dress their guests. It is one of the occasions that open the autumn season in Los Angeles. Our Academy Museum Gala VIP page explains how we compose the stay around it.

The calendar: an autumn evening
The rhythm is now established: a Saturday in October, with one exception. In 2023, the evening planned for October was postponed and took place on 3 December. For 2026, the museum has announced the sixth edition for Saturday 17 October; that day, it is closed to the public.
For future editions, nothing has yet been published. We follow the museum's announcements and set your stay as soon as a date is confirmed. The table below sets out the verified reference points.

The museum: a 1939 department store and a glass sphere
The Academy Museum stands on the corner of Wilshire Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue, on the Museum Row of Miracle Mile. It brings together two buildings that could hardly be more different. The Saban Building is the former May Company department store, built in 1939 in the Streamline Moderne style and restored; it houses the exhibition galleries. Beside it, the Sphere, of glass and concrete, designed by Renzo Piano, houses the David Geffen Theater, with around a thousand seats, and, beneath a glass dome, the Dolby Family Terrace, facing the hills.
Open to the public Wednesday to Monday, the museum can be visited with advance booking advised. It is a direct way to understand what the evening supports: a museum devoted to film, its crafts and its history.

Who attends, and why nothing is resold
The gala has no public box office. Tables and seats are offered by the museum itself, as part of its fundraising: usually, studios, houses and companies take a table and invite their own guests. The sums paid support the museum; this is a contribution to a benefit evening, not a ticket.
It should be said plainly: TGZ resells no table and no seat, and no serious concierge promises an invitation. Anyone wishing to support the museum should approach it directly. Our guide How the Academy Museum Gala Works details how the evening really works.
How to live gala weekend as a private visitor?
The evening takes place at the museum, among its guests; the weekend belongs to the city. In mid-October, Los Angeles offers mild days and evenings that turn cool; part of the film industry is in town, and dinners multiply between Beverly Hills and West Hollywood.
A well-made stay rests on what is composed: a suite in Beverly Hills or a villa in the hills, a stylist for each evening's look, tables held at the right hours, a private evening created for you on gala night, and a visit to the museum on another day. Our guide The Academy Museum Gala Dress Code prepares the looks.

Planning your stay: hotel, journeys, budget
The hotel first: Beverly Hills offers the practical addresses, a few kilometres west of the museum — the Beverly Wilshire, on the same boulevard, The Beverly Hills Hotel, The Peninsula Beverly Hills, named by way of illustration. Our guide Where to Stay for the Academy Museum Gala compares each option.
Then the journeys: Los Angeles is crossed by car, and a dedicated chauffeur settles the essentials. From Paris, a private flight to Van Nuys, in the San Fernando Valley, or a long-haul flight to LAX, is planned around the nine-hour time difference. Our guide Getting Around Los Angeles During the Academy Museum Gala details how it works.
Finally, the budget: every stay is quoted individually, because it is composed. What makes it vary: the neighbourhood and category of the suite or the size of the villa, the length of stay, the flight, the number of chauffeur and stylist days, the format of the dinners and the private evening, the size of the group and the timing of the booking. None of these items includes access to the gala.
