What is the Monaco Red Cross Gala?

The Monaco Red Cross was founded on 3 March 1948 by Prince Louis II, in the aftermath of the war, and recognised the same year by the International Committee of the Red Cross. It is one of the 191 national societies of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, and follows its seven principles: humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity and universality. It works in Monaco and abroad, alongside people in vulnerable situations.

Since its founding, the association has organised benefit evenings to fund its work. The summer gala has become its principal occasion: an evening held in support of its missions, paying tribute to the generosity of its donors. It is held under the presidency of the Sovereign Prince, president of the association.

The venue: the Salle des Étoiles at the Sporting Monte-Carlo

The gala takes place at the Sporting Monte-Carlo, on avenue Princesse-Grace, in the Salle des Étoiles, inaugurated in 1974. Its wide bay windows look out over the sea, and its roof can open so that the show plays out beneath the summer sky. This is what sets the evening apart from the great balls of winter and spring: it belongs to the warm season.

The gala left the Salle des Étoiles for two summers, in 2021 and 2022, for the Place du Casino, before returning in 2023. The Sporting is also home to Jimmy'z, where the evening carried on in 2026.

How a gala evening unfolds

The evening follows an established tradition. In 2026, the doors of the Salle des Étoiles opened at 7.45 pm; the evening began with the gala dinner, prepared by the Sporting's kitchens, followed by the raffle, the fireworks fired from the sea and the show. The night then carried on at Jimmy'z.

As tradition dictates, a work of art is presented each year to the Monaco Red Cross on the occasion of the gala. The artistic programme changes from one edition to the next; we do not comment on it, as it belongs to the organiser.

Who attends the gala, and how places are offered

The gala brings together around eight hundred guests: the association's donors, their guests, and representatives of the Red Cross movement. Places are offered by the organiser, through the booking service of Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer, which publishes its terms each year. Allocation and seating rest with the organiser.

Preparing your stay: hotel, sea, journeys, budget

The hotel first: Monte-Carlo is lived on foot, and the addresses around the Place du Casino — the Hôtel de Paris, the Hôtel Hermitage, the Hôtel Métropole, named by way of illustration — put the port, the terraces and the Sporting within a few minutes. Then the sea: in July, a day on a yacht along the coast and a lunch at anchor are half the stay. Finally, the journeys: Monaco has no airport; you arrive through Nice, by helicopter to Fontvieille in about seven minutes, or by car along the coast. The budget: every stay is quoted individually, because it is composed. What makes it vary: the address and category of the suite, the length of stay, the flight and the helicopter, the boat, the dinners, the stylist, the size of the group and the timing of the booking. None of these items includes a place at the gala.
