Where to Stay for the amfAR Gala in Venice
Grand Canal, St Mark's, Giudecca, Lido, a private palazzo: the districts that matter around the evening, compared for a Venice Film Festival week on the lagoon.

For a stay arranged around the amfAR Gala in Venice, one rule comes first: the venue of the evening changes almost every year, and the 2027 venue has not been announced. So you choose a central address, well served by water, rather than proximity. On the Grand Canal or near St Mark's — the Gritti Palace, Aman Venice, the Hotel Danieli, named by way of illustration — everything is quickly reached by boat. On the Giudecca, the Hotel Cipriani offers calm facing the city; on the Lido, the Hotel Excelsior puts the Venice Film Festival within walking distance. An apartment in a palazzo suits those who wish to receive guests. Staying at the hotel that hosts the evening gives no access to the gala. During the Venice Film Festival, everything is booked early; every stay is quoted individually.
A venue that changes: choose centrality
In Cannes, the amfAR Gala has been held at the same place in recent years. In Venice, it has not: the Arsenale, La Misericordia in Cannaregio, a hangar at the Lido airport, the Molino Stucky on the Giudecca. Choosing your hotel "near the gala" therefore makes little sense until the foundation has announced the 2027 venue.
The right question lies elsewhere: from which address can you quickly reach, by water, any point on the lagoon? A hotel with a private jetty, or a few steps from a landing stage, on the Grand Canal, near St Mark's or on the Giudecca, answers that question.

The Grand Canal and St Mark's: everything within reach by boat
On the Grand Canal, the Gritti Palace and Aman Venice, set in a palazzo, offer suites on the water and a boat departure from the door. Near St Mark's, the Hotel Danieli looks out over the basin. These addresses, named by way of illustration, put the Arsenale, the Giudecca and the Lido a few minutes away by water.
It is a flexible choice for a week in which you dine somewhere different every evening. We book with the hotels as any client does: TGZ is affiliated with none of them.
The Giudecca: calm, facing the city
Across the Giudecca Canal, the island offers a quieter Venice, facing the Zattere and St Mark's. The Hotel Cipriani opens there in season, with its own boat service to St Mark's Square. The Molino Stucky, a former neo-Gothic mill completed in 1895 and a hotel since 2007, hosted the gala in 2026; it runs a boat shuttle to St Mark's and the Zattere.
Staying there gives no access to the evening, which rests with the foundation; and when the gala is held there, the house is in high demand. When a room is not available, we say so and propose an equivalent.

The Lido: living the Venice Film Festival
The Lido is the island of the Venice Film Festival: the screenings, the carpets of the Sala Grande, the festival dinners. The Hotel Excelsior, on the seafront, is its heart during those two weeks. It is the address for those who also live the festival itself, its screenings and its evenings.
The Lido is further from the historic centre: allow for a longer boat journey to the Arsenale or Cannaregio, and we plan the departure time accordingly. In 2024, the gala was held on the Lido itself, at the Hangar Nicelli.
A private palazzo or an island: receiving guests
For a group, a family or a stay in which you receive guests, an apartment in a palazzo — with its drawing rooms, sometimes its own jetty — offers what a hotel does not: a room for fittings, a table for an after-gala dinner, the discretion of an address that is not public. On its own island, the San Clemente Palace offers another reading of the lagoon, set apart. A minimum number of nights is often required during the Venice Film Festival; we verify each property before proposing it.
| District | Addresses (by way of illustration) | For whom | Good to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grand Canal | Gritti Palace, Aman Venice | Reaching everything quickly by water | In high demand during the Venice Film Festival |
| St Mark's | Hotel Danieli | The historic centre on foot | A landing stage at the foot of the hotel |
| Giudecca | Hotel Cipriani, Molino Stucky | Calm, facing the city | Seasonal opening for some houses |
| Lido | Hotel Excelsior | Living the Venice Film Festival as well | Further from the historic centre |
| Private palazzo or island | Apartment in a palazzo, San Clemente Palace | Group, family, receptions | Minimum stay frequent during the Venice Film Festival |

When to book, and how we proceed
Gala week falls in the middle of the Venice Film Festival: Venice and the Lido are in high demand. We advise securing the address as soon as your dates take shape, adjusting if needed once the foundation publishes the 2027 date and venue.
The quote depends on the address, the room category or the capacity of the apartment, the length of stay and the timing of the booking. It includes no gala table. For the rest of the stay — boat, tables, evening dress — our amfAR Gala Venice VIP page composes the whole, and our guide Getting to the amfAR Gala in Venice settles the journeys.

Yes: it is the island of the Venice Film Festival, and the Hotel Excelsior is its heart during the festival. The boat journey to the historic centre is longer: we take that into account on gala night.
As soon as your dates take shape. The 2027 gala date has not been published, but it will fall during the Venice Film Festival, expected in late August and early September: we can secure the address early and adjust afterwards, according to each house's terms.
Yes: an apartment in a palazzo, sometimes with its own jetty, suits a group or a stay in which you receive guests. A minimum number of nights is often required during the Venice Film Festival; we verify each property and its terms before proposing it to you, on quotation.
No. No hotel and no palazzo gives access to the evening: tables and places are sold by amfAR itself. Choosing your address well simply makes the evening easier.
