Where to Stay for the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance?

Beside the fairway, in a village of galleries, by the harbour in Monterey or in a villa: four approaches to choosing an address for a week in high demand on the peninsula.

In short

For the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, four approaches to accommodation stand out. In Pebble Beach itself: The Lodge at Pebble Beach, opened in 1919, with 161 rooms around the 18th green and facing Carmel Bay; Casa Palmero, a 24-room residence between The Lodge and the first fairway; The Inn at Spanish Bay, on the other side of the Del Monte Forest. In Carmel-by-the-Sea, a village of low houses and galleries — L'Auberge Carmel, cited for illustration. In Monterey, around the harbour. Finally, a villa on the peninsula, with household staff, for entertaining. For the August week, all of them go early. Each option is prepared on quotation.

01

The overall answer: close to the fairway, or close to life

The Concours takes place in the Del Monte Forest, a private enclave whose access roads, from 12 to 15 August 2027, are reserved for Concours traffic. On Sunday, the show field opens at 5.30am: staying very close means walking to the fairway at dawn, with no road and no shuttle.

But the week is not just the Sunday. Carmel-by-the-Sea and Monterey, a few minutes away, offer tables, galleries, an evening life. Four approaches to choosing an address answer four ways of experiencing Car Week.

02

In Pebble Beach: The Lodge, Casa Palmero, Spanish Bay

The Lodge at Pebble Beach has welcomed guests since 1919. Its 161 rooms look out over the gardens, the fairways or Carmel Bay; it surrounds the 18th green, a few steps from the Concours show field. On Sunday, it is the address closest to the action — and the first to go.

Casa Palmero, a Mediterranean-style residence renovated in 2024, has 24 rooms between The Lodge and the first fairway: a house more than a hotel, calm, within walking distance. The Inn at Spanish Bay, opened in 1987, stands at the other end of the Del Monte Forest, facing the dunes: further from the show field, at the heart of the same estate.

03

Carmel-by-the-Sea

Carmel-by-the-Sea, a few minutes to the south, is a village of low houses, flower-filled courtyards and galleries, sloping down to a white-sand beach. You dine there, you walk there in the evening; it is the base for those who want to experience the peninsula as much as the Concours. A shuttle links Carmel Plaza to the Concours on Sunday.

Addresses there are often small: L'Auberge Carmel, a 1929 house with twenty rooms, four blocks from the beach, illustrates this register — cited for illustration. Carmel's rental houses, for their part, allow you to entertain.

04

Monterey and the villas of the peninsula

Monterey, north of the forest, offers more rooms around its harbour and its bay, a few minutes' drive from the Del Monte Forest on ordinary days — longer on Concours Sunday. It is also where the regional airport is located.

For a family, a group or business guests, a villa on the peninsula — in Pebble Beach, in Carmel or in the hills of Carmel Valley — offers space, discretion and a chef for the evenings. It is generally booked for the whole week.

05

Criteria, minimum stays and timing: how to decide

Three criteria settle it. The programme first: the Sunday alone, or the week. Then use: continuous hotel service, or a house of your own for entertaining. Finally distance: walking to the fairway, or accepting a few minutes' drive for village life in the evening.

Timing is the rule without exception: Concours week is in high demand on the peninsula, and addresses close to the fairway often impose a minimum stay. The table below summarises the choice.
