The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is held at Yas Marina Circuit, on Yas Island. In 2026, it takes place from Friday 4 to Sunday 6 December and closes the season: it is the 23rd and final round of the championship. The weekend follows the classic format — practice on Friday, qualifying on Saturday, the race on Sunday — and the race starts in the late afternoon and finishes after dark, under floodlights. The promoter is Ethara, which operates the circuit. You follow the race from a grandstand, the Abu Dhabi Hill lawn, a hospitality suite, the Paddock Club or a yacht in the marina; every evening, after-race concerts are reserved for ticket holders. Hotels on Yas Island, on Saadiyat and downtown are booked early.
What is the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix?
The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is a round of the Formula 1 World Championship, held since 2009 at Yas Marina Circuit, on Yas Island, an island off the east coast of Abu Dhabi. The first edition, on 1 November 2009, was the first “day-night” Formula 1 race: start at 5 pm, sunset during the race, finish under floodlights. The format has stayed.
The circuit has measured 5.281 km since its 2021 reconfiguration, and the race runs over 58 laps. It skirts a marina where yachts moor over the weekend, and passes beneath the W Abu Dhabi – Yas Island hotel, whose illuminated shell spans the track. The Grand Prix is promoted by Abu Dhabi Motorsports Management, a company of the Ethara group, which operates the circuit; the contract with Formula 1 runs until 2030.
In 2026, Abu Dhabi hosts the season finale. For a private visitor, it is a year-end weekend in the sun, in a city that combines beaches, museums and grand hotels — and that, as much as the race, is what this guide teaches you to compose.

Race weekend, day by day
The 2026 Grand Prix follows the classic format, with no sprint race. Exact session times are published by Formula 1; the table below sets out the landmarks. Our Abu Dhabi Grand Prix programme details what happens around each day.
| Day | On track | Around the race |
|---|---|---|
| Thursday 3 December | Opening day, no Formula 1 session | First after-race concert at Etihad Park; arrivals and settling in |
| Friday 4 December | Free practice | Getting to know the circuit, dinner in town or on the island; evening concert |
| Saturday 5 December | Final practice and qualifying | A full day, the eve of the race; evening concert |
| Sunday 6 December | The race, starting late in the day, finishing after dark | Season finale; last concert after the race |
Where to watch the race: seats around the circuit
The circuit offers several registers. The Main Grandstand faces the garages and the start line: you see the start, the pit stops and the podium. The North and West grandstands overlook the long straights and their braking zones, the South Grandstand the Turn 9 hairpin with the marina behind it, and the Marina Grandstand the stretch that runs alongside the yachts. The Abu Dhabi Hill lawn offers general admission, with no allocated seat.
Above them, hospitality suites overlook several grandstands, and the Formula 1 Paddock Club sits above the garages, facing the pit lane. Finally, Yas Marina lets you follow part of the circuit from a yacht. Our guide How do you attend the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix? compares every option. One common rule: everything is sourced on request, with origin and conditions confirmed before any commitment — we do not sell advertised stock.

Yas Island, Saadiyat, downtown: choosing your base
Yas Island is the circuit's island: here you find the hotel that spans the track, other addresses a few minutes away, Yas Bay and Etihad Arena, the island's theme parks and a golf course. It is the choice of proximity, with one drawback: traffic builds at the times people enter and leave the circuit.
Saadiyat, the neighbouring island, offers the beach, calm and the Louvre Abu Dhabi; downtown and Al Maryah Island, the city's grand hotels, further from the circuit but closer to everything else. Our guide Where should you stay for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix? compares these options. Over race weekend, minimum stays are common and sought-after rooms go months in advance.
Arriving and getting around
Abu Dhabi is reached via Zayed International Airport (AUH), close to Yas Island, or by business aviation via Zayed International or Al Bateen Executive Airport. From Dubai, allow about one to one and a half hours by road depending on traffic. At the 2025 edition, free shuttles linked the Yas Island car parks to the circuit, and a loop shuttle served the grandstands.
For a private stay, a dedicated chauffeur who knows the access points and exit times handles the essentials; the boat is an option from the marina. Our guide How do you get to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix? details every journey, including arrival by private jet and by yacht.

Every stay is quoted on request, because it is composed: a grandstand and a hotel on the island do not call for the same quotation as a Paddock Club, a suite on Saadiyat and a yacht in the marina. What makes it vary: the seat, the number of days, the hotel and length of stay, the chauffeur, private aviation, the size of the group and when you book.
