LACMA Art+Film Gala: How Does the Museum's Evening Work?
A benefit evening, a museum that has changed its face, a stay in Los Angeles: the complete guide, with what is arranged through us and what belongs to the museum.
Last updated 5 October 2026 · 6 min read
The LACMA Art+Film Gala is the annual benefit evening of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, held on its Wilshire Boulevard campus. Founded in 2011, it honours an artist and a filmmaker each year; its proceeds support the museum's programmes, in particular the place it gives to film, as well as its exhibitions, acquisitions and education programmes. The 15th edition will take place on Saturday, November 7, 2026. Tables and seats are offered by the museum itself, for the benefit of the museum. A private visitor composes the stay around it: a hotel in Beverly Hills or West Hollywood, dinners, a chauffeur, eveningwear, and a visit to the museum, whose new galleries opened in spring 2026.
What is the LACMA Art+Film Gala?
It is the benefit evening the Los Angeles County Museum of Art holds each autumn. Its name says what it is about: bringing art and film together, in a city where the two have always kept company. Each edition honours an artist and a filmmaker, around a dinner, tributes and, often, a musical performance.
The evening is not an end in itself: its proceeds support the museum's programmes. The museum directs them in particular to the place it gives to film in its programming, and more broadly to its exhibitions, acquisitions and education programmes. Our page LACMA Art+Film Gala VIP explains how we compose the stay around it.

The calendar: a Saturday in early November
The first edition dates from 2011. In recent years, the evening has been held on a Saturday in early November: November 1 in 2025, November 7 in 2026. The season suits it — Los Angeles finds its mild days again after the summer, and the city's cultural autumn is in full swing.
For a stay, it is wise to arrive at least the day before, to absorb the nine-hour time difference with Paris, and to stay on until Sunday or Monday to see the museum in daylight. The table below sets out the verified landmarks.
| Edition | Date | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|
| 1st | 2011 | First evening bringing art and film together at the museum |
| 14th | Saturday, November 1, 2025 | Held in front of the new galleries, then nearly complete |
| 15th | Saturday, November 7, 2026 | First edition since the opening of the David Geffen Galleries |
Tables and seats: what belongs to the museum
Unlike other galas where everything rests on invitation, the museum itself offers tables — of eight or ten covers depending on the category — and individual seats, and also receives contributions without attendance at the evening. The sums paid go to the museum: this is participation in a benefit evening, whose terms and acceptance are set by the museum.
We are not an intermediary in this setting: we sell, resell or book no table, and promise no seat. Should you wish to take part in the evening, the request is made directly to the museum. Our guide How Do LACMA Art+Film Gala Tables Work? explains how it works, based on the information published by the museum.

The museum, and what changed in 2026
The Los Angeles County Museum of Art occupies a vast campus on Wilshire Boulevard, in the Miracle Mile neighbourhood, next to the La Brea Tar Pits. On April 19, 2026, it opened the David Geffen Galleries: a building of glass and concrete some 900 feet (about 275 metres) long, which spans Wilshire Boulevard and presents the permanent collections on a single raised level, across nearly 110,000 square feet of galleries.
For the visitor, it is one more reason to stay a day after the evening. The museum is open every day except Wednesday; a metro station, Wilshire/Fairfax, opened opposite in May 2026. One last word to avoid confusion: the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, its neighbour on Wilshire Boulevard, is a separate institution with its own evening; this guide covers the LACMA gala only.
Living the stay as a private visitor
The evening lasts one night; the stay belongs to the city. In early November, Los Angeles is lived between Beverly Hills, West Hollywood and the hills: dinners, galleries, a morning in Malibu, a day at the museum. Whether or not you take part in the evening through the museum, it is everything around it that we compose.
A successful stay rests on a few choices: an address a few miles from the museum, a stylist for the evening looks, tables held at the right hours, a chauffeur who knows the arrivals at the campus, then a visit to the galleries at a quiet hour. Our guide LACMA Art+Film Gala Dress Code prepares the looks.

Planning your stay: hotel, travel, budget
The hotel first: Beverly Hills, a few miles west along Wilshire Boulevard, and West Hollywood, just to the north, offer practical addresses — The Beverly Hills Hotel, the Beverly Wilshire, The Peninsula Beverly Hills, the Sunset Tower Hotel, named by way of illustration. Our guide Where to Stay for the LACMA Art+Film Gala compares each option.
Then the journeys: in Los Angeles, everything is done by car, and a dedicated chauffeur settles the essentials. From Paris, a private flight into Van Nuys or a long-haul flight into LAX is timed around the time difference. Our guide How to Get Around Los Angeles for the LACMA Art+Film Gala sets out how it works.
Finally, the budget: every stay is quoted individually, because it is composed. What makes it vary: the address and category of the suite or villa, the length of stay, the flight, the days of chauffeur and stylist, the format of the dinners, the size of the party and the timing of the booking. None of these items includes a seat at the evening.
