Monte-Carlo Masters: The Complete Guide

Nine days of clay above the sea, three courts, boxes let by the week and a named ticket: how a tournament that rewards early planning works.

Last updated 6 October 2026 · 4 min read

In short

The Monte-Carlo Masters is an ATP Masters 1000 clay-court tennis tournament, played every April at the Monte-Carlo Country Club, in the commune of Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, on the border of Monaco. Founded in 1897, it has been played at the club since it opened in 1928. The 2027 edition takes place from Saturday 3 to Sunday 11 April: qualifying on the first weekend, quarter-finals on Friday 9, semi-finals on Saturday 10, the final on Sunday 11 April. The organiser, the S.M.E.T.T., sells its own tickets — named, by court and by day —, its hospitality packages and its boxes, let for the whole week. Everything else — accommodation, travel, dinners — is composed around it, and booked early.

01

What is the Monte-Carlo Masters?

The story begins in 1897: that year, the Principality's first tennis tournament is played in Monte-Carlo. The tournament changes courts several times, until the opening, in 1928, of the Monte-Carlo Country Club, inaugurated by Prince Louis II. It has never left.

It is an ATP Masters 1000 tournament, the highest category on the men's tour after the Grand Slams: a draw of fifty-six players, matches played over the best of three sets. It is the first Masters 1000 of the clay-court season.

A place apart: the Country Club, on the hillside

The Monte-Carlo Country Club stands at 155 avenue Princesse Grace, in the French commune of Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, some 150 metres from the Monegasque border. The site extends over more than three hectares, in terraces, between the hillside and the sea: the ochre clay of the courts, the Mediterranean below.

Three courts host the competition: Court Rainier III, the centre court, with 10,500 seats; the Court des Princes; the Court Elizabeth-Ann de Massy. The VIP village, with its suites facing the sea, hosts the hospitality packages. The tournament is held under the High Patronage of the Sovereign Prince.

The nine days of 2027

From Saturday 3 to Sunday 11 April 2027. The site opens each day at 9.30am. The first weekend is given over to qualifying; the Sunday of qualifying is also Children's Day. The main draw then runs through to the final weekend, which brings together the major matches.

The markers below are those published by the organiser and the Monaco tourist office for 2027; the order of play is set day by day, and we confirm it before you travel.

Tickets, boxes and hospitality

The organiser sells its tickets court by court and day by day. On Court Rainier III, seats are divided into categories, from the Super category, closest to the court, to the 3rd category; passes cover qualifying, the final weekend or the whole week. Tickets are named, and they may be resold only on the organiser's platform, at face value.

For entertaining, the organiser sells boxes for four, six or ten guests along Court Rainier III — for the full length of the tournament only —, day hospitality packages and suites in the VIP village. Our guide How to Attend the Monte-Carlo Masters? sets out each route.

05

Preparing your stay: accommodation, arrival, evenings, budget

Accommodation first: a Monte-Carlo palace, a seafront hotel in Larvotto or Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, a villa in the hills. Then arrival: Nice Côte d'Azur Airport, followed by the helicopter to the Monaco heliport or a chauffeur along the coast; on site, the train to the Country Club's temporary stop avoids the road. Our guides Where to Stay for the Monte-Carlo Masters? and How to Get to the Monte-Carlo Masters? compare each option.

The budget is composed item by item — court and category, number of days, package or box, accommodation, travel, dinners — and is set out on quotation. We explain what makes it vary rather than publish a price list.
