Where to Stay for the Monte-Carlo Masters?

The palaces of Monte-Carlo, the sea at the foot of the Country Club, or a villa in the hills: three approaches to an address for a week in April.

In short

For the Monte-Carlo Masters, three approaches to accommodation stand out. In the heart of Monte-Carlo, the historic palaces — the Hôtel de Paris, the Hôtel Hermitage, the Hôtel Métropole, cited for illustration —, a few minutes from the Country Club. Closest to the courts, the seafront hotels of Larvotto and Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, such as the Monte-Carlo Bay, around a kilometre from the club, or the Monte-Carlo Beach — cited for illustration. Finally, a staffed villa in the hills, between Cap-Martin, Èze and Cap-Ferrat, for those who wish to entertain. The tournament's final weekend should be booked early; each option is prepared on quotation.

01

The overall answer: distance is measured in bends

The Monte-Carlo Country Club lies at the eastern end of Monaco, in the commune of Roquebrune-Cap-Martin. On the map, everything is close: Larvotto a few hundred metres away, the Place du Casino a few minutes away. In practice, the Principality is a dense city on a mountainside, and the approaches to the club are busy at match times; the organiser in fact advises parking well away from the site.

The right criterion is therefore not distance alone, but rhythm: arriving before the first match that interests you, returning to change before dinner, entertaining at home. Three approaches to an address answer three ways of living the week.

02

The palaces of Monte-Carlo

The Hôtel de Paris, opened in 1864 opposite the Casino and renovated in 2019; the Hôtel Hermitage, a Belle Époque palace completed in 1896 above the harbour, with its domed winter garden; the Hôtel Métropole, from 1889, a few steps from the Casino, with its spa and seawater pool: three houses cited for illustration, which put the city at your feet.

Here the week is spent between the courts and Monte-Carlo: a chauffeur drops you at the Country Club in a few minutes outside busy periods, and the city's tables are within walking distance in the evening. For the final weekend, these addresses go early.

03

By the water: Larvotto and Roquebrune-Cap-Martin

Closest to the Country Club, the seafront hotels of Larvotto and Roquebrune-Cap-Martin let you reach the courts without crossing the city. The Monte-Carlo Bay, on avenue Princesse Grace, is around a kilometre from the club; the Monte-Carlo Beach, in the commune of Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, is very close — two examples cited for illustration.

It is the choice for those who wish to live the tournament fully: a day at the courts, a return on foot or in a few minutes, a swim before dinner.

04

A villa on the Riviera

Between Cap-Martin, Èze, Beaulieu and Cap-Ferrat, villas are let for the week, with household staff, a chef and a view of the sea. You entertain there after the matches, host a lunch before the final, and live the week without depending on a reservation.

The coast road links these villas to Monaco; depending on the address, allow longer on busy days. A chauffeur for the week, or the helicopter for tightly scheduled days, makes the distance negligible.

05

Criteria, minimum stays and timing: how to decide

Three criteria settle it. The number of days, first: for a single day, a Monte-Carlo palace is enough; for the whole week or a box, an address close to the club avoids the back-and-forth. The use, next: living in a hotel with continuous service, or entertaining at home. The programme, finally: tennis alone, or a week on the Riviera with dinners and days at sea.

Timing is the rule: the best-placed addresses go early for the final weekend, often with a minimum stay. The table below summarises the choice.
