Watches and Wonders in Geneva: How Do the Salon and Its Week Work?

Professional days, public weekend, In The City, hotels and journeys: how a week that reaches far beyond Palexpo actually works.

Last updated 6 October 2026 · 6 min read

In short

Watches and Wonders is the watchmaking salon held every spring in Geneva, successor to the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie, founded in 1991. It is organised by the Watches and Wonders Geneva Foundation, a non-profit foundation based in Geneva. In 2027 it takes place from Monday 5 to Sunday 11 April: the salon opens at Palexpo from the Monday for the professional days, reserved for accredited journalists, retailers and guests of the houses, then welcomes the public from Friday 9 to Sunday 11 April. Public tickets are sold by the organiser, online only, and are named. Throughout the week, the In The City programme, open to all, brings the city centre to life. The 2026 edition brought together 65 exhibiting houses and nearly 60,000 visitors.

01

What is Watches and Wonders?

Watches and Wonders continues a Geneva story that began in 1991 with the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie, long reserved for professionals. Renamed in 2019, the salon opened to the public first online, in 2020 and 2021, then in person from 2022, with three days open to all. Since then it has been organised by the Watches and Wonders Geneva Foundation, a non-profit foundation created the same year in Geneva to promote watchmaking.

Every spring, the salon brings together watchmaking houses that come to present their new creations, from long-established manufactures to independent houses. People come to discover the year's creations before they reach the boutiques, to understand the crafts that bring them to life, and for the week that has grown up around it, in a city where watchmaking is part of its history.

It is this week, as much as the halls of Palexpo, that a private visitor comes for: the artisans' demonstrations, the boutiques of the centre, the talks, the dinners beside the lake. This guide shows how to compose it.

The 2027 edition at a glance

The organiser has announced the format of the 2027 edition: a full week, from Monday to Sunday, between Palexpo and the city centre. Thirteen new houses have been announced; the full list of exhibitors takes shape over the months. For reference, the 2026 edition brought together 65 exhibiting houses and nearly 60,000 unique visitors.

How is the salon organised?

At Palexpo, each exhibiting house has its own space, where it presents the year's new creations. During the professional days, these spaces mainly host appointments: retailers, journalists, invited clients. During the public weekend, visitors discover the creations, the showcases and the demonstrations, at their own pace.

Around the houses, the salon makes room for the crafts: artisans' demonstrations, spaces devoted to innovation and to passing on skills, workshops for younger visitors. This is often what people remember first — an engraver bent over a dial, an enameller at work — and it deserves time.

For a private visit, the essentials come down to three choices: which day, which houses first, and at what pace. A well-composed salon day leaves time to return to a showcase, to lunch away from the bustle and to keep some energy for the city centre and for the evening.

04

In The City: the week beyond Palexpo

For several editions now, Watches and Wonders has extended into the centre of Geneva with the In The City programme, open to all and expanded to seven days in 2027. In 2026 it brought together the houses' boutiques, a village devoted to the watchmaking crafts beside the Rhône, with demonstrations and introductory workshops, guided tours of the city's watchmaking heritage, talks and evening concerts on the quays, mostly free to attend.

Other exhibitions and independent fairs also open during the week, each with its own conditions. And a second programme plays out in the evening, that of the houses and their guests: dinners, receptions, private evenings, generally by invitation. Our guide What to Do During Watches and Wonders Week in Geneva? maps it out.

05

Preparing your stay: accommodation, journeys, budget

Accommodation first: during the week, rooms on the quays and in the old town are booked early, often with a minimum stay. The right bank, around Cornavin station and the quays, is the practical choice for reaching Palexpo; the old town and the left bank offer more charm; the area around the airport puts you right next to the salon. When the city is full, Lausanne, the shores of Lake Geneva or Haute-Savoie take over. Our guide Where to Stay During Watches and Wonders in Geneva? compares the options one by one.

Then the journeys: Geneva is a little over three hours from Paris by direct TGV, and Geneva Airport, with its business aviation terminal, is a few minutes' walk from Palexpo. Once there, train, tram and chauffeur complement one another: our guide How to Get to Watches and Wonders in Geneva? explains how it all fits together. Finally, the budget: it is set by quote, element by element — address, length of stay, transport, chauffeurs, evenings, size of party.

And one rule that runs through it all: everything that matters is booked early. For early April 2027, the preceding autumn and winter are the right window; a few weeks before the salon, you work with what remains.

Key takeaways

Watches and Wonders 2027 takes place from 5 to 11 April in Geneva: professional days at Palexpo from the Monday, by invitation or accreditation, a public weekend from 9 to 11 April, and In The City throughout the week in the city centre. Public tickets are sold online, by the organiser, and are named; professional access cannot be bought. The private experience is composed elsewhere and everywhere: the crafts, the boutiques, the quays, fine tables, evenings through private channels subject to availability, all backed by logistics that connect the salon and the city. TGZ Conciergerie, an independent house based in Paris, with no affiliation with the Watches and Wonders Geneva Foundation, Palexpo or the exhibiting houses, and no official status, orchestrates the entire stay. Every stay is quoted on request, with availability and conditions confirmed before any commitment.

A full day lets you see the greater part of the houses and the spaces devoted to the crafts. Many visitors spend one day at the salon and the rest of their stay in the city centre, at the workshops and at the tables beside the lake. We compose this rhythm with you.

Every stay is quoted on request, because it is composed: a couple spending three nights beside the lake with a chauffeur does not call for the same quote as a week in a private house with receptions. What makes the budget vary: the length of stay, the address and category of accommodation, whether you stay in Geneva or nearby, the train, a flight or a private jet, the number of chauffeur days, the evenings, the size of your party and how early you book.
