What to Do During Milan Design Week?
The fair at Rho, the Fuorisalone in the quarters, open courtyards, dinners and evenings: the week around the Salone del Mobile, day after day.

During Milan Design Week, beyond the Salone del Mobile at Fiera Milano Rho (13 to 18 April 2027, open to the general public on 17 and 18 April), the whole city hosts the Fuorisalone, announced for 12 to 18 April 2027: around a thousand exhibitions, installations and presentations, the majority free to enter. It is explored by quarter — Brera Design District, Tortona, 5VIE, Isola, Porta Venezia —, adding the museums and palazzi opened for the occasion, then dinners and evenings, often by invitation.
One week, two stages
Design Week plays out on two stages. At Rho, the fair, with its halls and its tickets; in the city, the Fuorisalone, with its quarters and its open doors. The table below gives the key points; each quarter and each venue publishes its own programme.
| Stage | 2027 dates | Where | What you see there |
|---|---|---|---|
| Salone del Mobile.Milano | 13–18 April (public on 17 and 18) | Fiera Milano, Rho | Furniture, Euroluce, collectible design, young designers |
| Fuorisalone | 12–18 April | The whole city, by quarter | Exhibitions, installations, showrooms, talks |

The Fuorisalone quarters
Brera Design District brings together, in the historic heart, showrooms, galleries and open courtyards: it is often the starting point. Tortona, to the south-west, is where the Fuorisalone began, with vast exhibition spaces set in former industrial buildings. 5VIE, around five old streets in the centre laid out in a star, blends design and craftsmanship in places steeped in history.
Isola, to the north, around Porta Nuova, is the more experimental quarter, with its emerging designers and self-produced projects. Porta Venezia, to the east, has in recent years become a lively hub of the week. Other venues, palazzi and courtyards usually closed, open their doors for a few days.
The fair, for a day or two
At Rho, a well-prepared day is enough to see the essentials of what interests you: furniture, Euroluce and light in 2027, Salone Raritas for collectible design, SaloneSatellite for young designers. Two days leave time to return to a stand or to meet publishers for a project.
A rhythm that works well is often this: the fair in the morning, when the mind is fresh, a return to town early in the afternoon, and the end of the day in the quarters, when the courtyards come alive.

Museums, palazzi and houses
Milan is more than Design Week, and the week is a fine opportunity to see it differently: museums of design and decorative arts, great residences turned into museums, palazzi whose courtyards open for the occasion. Their exhibitions and opening hours are checked for each edition.
Some design houses and collections receive guests during the week for visits or receptions reserved for those they invite. We request private visits where possible, subject to availability, without any guarantee.
Dinners, openings, evenings
In the evening, the week takes on another face: openings in showrooms, cocktails in courtyards, dinners given by exhibitors for their clients, evenings in palazzi. These occasions are generally held by invitation. We pass on requests where possible, after reviewing the client's profile, without any guarantee, and tell you early what is realistic.
When no invitation comes, we create the evening: a private salon, an apartment or villa rented to receive, a table set apart, a chef and sommelier, discreet security. Milan's fine tables are booked early for the week.

A typical week, day by day
An indicative example, to be adapted to your dates and your visitor category: arrival on Monday 12 April, first steps in Brera in the late afternoon; a day at the fair midweek if you are a professional, otherwise Tortona and 5VIE; Isola and Porta Venezia on Thursday; the fair on Saturday 17, the day it opens to the public; museums and a last dinner on Sunday, or a day on Lake Como. Each day keeps a quiet moment: at the hotel spa, in a garden, or simply on foot in the streets of the centre.
