Bal de la Rose: How Does the Monaco Evening Unfold?
A charity evening, a hall by the sea, a new theme each year: the complete guide, with what can be booked and what cannot.

The Bal de la Rose, or Rose Ball, is a charity evening held every year in March in the Salle des Étoiles at the Sporting Monte-Carlo, for the benefit of the Princess Grace Foundation. Founded in 1954, it became a charity evening in 1964 at the initiative of Princess Grace; its proceeds go in full to the Foundation. It is organised by Groupe Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer, which offers the places itself, in the guest's name and in limited number. The published dress code is "Black tie – evening dress", and each edition has its theme. For 2027, neither the date nor the theme has been published: the ball will take place in March 2027. Around it, Monaco is lived over a weekend: a palace, tables, a helicopter from Nice.
What is the Bal de la Rose?
The Bal de la Rose was born in 1954, conceived by Henry Astric, artistic director of Société des Bains de Mer. Ten years later, in 1964, Princess Grace created the Foundation that bears her name, and the ball became a charity evening for its benefit. Since then, the evening's proceeds, raffle included, have gone in full to the Princess Grace Foundation, which supports people in difficulty and disadvantaged children.
The evening is held in the Salle des Étoiles at the Sporting Monte-Carlo, on avenue Princesse-Grace, by the sea. It follows an established order: a cocktail reception, a dinner composed around the year's theme, a show, the raffle, then the opening of the ball and dancing until late. It is one of the Principality's great charity evenings.
What sets it apart is the theme: each year, under the aegis of the Foundation's presidency, a designer is given free rein to transform the hall — décor, light, dinner, show. Our Bal de la Rose VIP page explains how we compose the stay around it.

The calendar: a Saturday in March
The ball is held in March, on a Saturday evening; doors open at 8 pm. The two most recent editions set the rhythm: 29 March 2025, then 21 March 2026 for the seventieth edition. For 2027, as of 5 October 2026, the organiser has not yet published the date.
For a stay, this calendar draws a natural weekend: arrival on Friday, the ball on Saturday, Sunday in Monaco or on the Riviera. March is a quiet season on the Côte d'Azur, before the spring crowds; the days are mild, the evenings cool. The table below sets out the verified reference points.
| Edition | Date | Theme |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | Saturday 29 March 2025 | "The Sunset Ball", the Caribbean |
| 2026 (70th edition) | Saturday 21 March 2026 | "Galaxy Rose Ball", outer space |
| 2027 | March 2027 — date not published as of 5 October 2026 | Not announced |
Who attends, and how places are offered
Places at the Bal de la Rose are offered by its organiser, Groupe Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer, at a per-person price it sets itself, for the benefit of the Foundation. A share is entrusted, in limited number, to clubs and associations of the Principality, which allocate them to their members. Places are issued in the guest's name and are non-transferable, and they often go well before the evening: bookings for the 2026 edition had closed before the ball.
It must be said plainly: a place resold by an intermediary is not a secure place, since it is issued in someone's name. Any offer of a "ball package" should arouse suspicion. Our guide How to Attend the Bal de la Rose details how it really works, drawing on public sources.

How to enjoy the weekend as a private visitor?
The ball lasts one evening; the weekend belongs to Monaco. In March, Monte-Carlo moves at its most pleasant pace: the Place du Casino calm in the morning, terraces reopening in the sun, the great tables within reach with a little notice. On Friday evening, dinner at Le Louis XV or Les Ambassadeurs; on Sunday, lunch facing the harbour or a stroll on the Rock.
A successful stay rests on what is composed: a room in a Monte-Carlo palace, a stylist for Saturday's attire, a chauffeur who knows when the doors open, then, for those who have their place, unhurried preparation. For the others, an evening composed elsewhere in Monaco. Our guide Where to Stay for the Bal de la Rose compares the addresses, and our guide Bal de la Rose Dress Code prepares the attire.
Planning your stay: hotel, journeys, budget
The hotel first: the Hôtel de Paris, the Hôtel Hermitage and the Hôtel Métropole, named by way of illustration, are a few minutes from the Sporting; a villa on the Riviera suits a group. On the weekend of the ball, the finer rooms are booked early.
Then the journeys: Nice Côte d'Azur airport is the gateway. From there, the helicopter reaches the Fontvieille heliport in about seven minutes; the road, some thirty kilometres, takes forty-five minutes to an hour depending on traffic. Our guide How to Get to the Bal de la Rose compares the options.
Finally, the budget: every stay is quoted individually, because it is composed. What makes it vary: the address and category of the room, the length of stay, the flight and the helicopter, the number of days with a chauffeur and a stylist, the format of the dinners, the size of the group and the timing of the booking. None of these items includes a place at the ball.

What to remember
The Bal de la Rose is the charity evening of the Princess Grace Foundation, every year in March, in the Salle des Étoiles at the Sporting Monte-Carlo; it is organised by Groupe Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer, which offers its places, in the guest's name and in limited number. The 2027 date and theme have not yet been published. TGZ Conciergerie, an independent house not affiliated with the Princess Grace Foundation, the Prince's Palace or Société des Bains de Mer, and with no official status, sells no place: it composes the stay around the evening — palace, tables, helicopter, chauffeur, stylist. Every stay is quoted individually, with availability and terms confirmed before any commitment.
