What to Do During Art Basel Week in Basel?

Unlimited, Parcours, satellite fairs, museums, dinners and the banks of the Rhine: the week that surrounds Art Basel, day after day.

Last updated 5 October 2026 · 4 min read

In short

During Art Basel week, beyond the fair (Preview Days on 15 and 16 June 2027, public days from 17 to 20 June), you discover Unlimited and its large-scale projects, the Parcours installations in the neighbouring streets, and satellite fairs — Liste, devoted to emerging contemporary art, from 14 to 20 June in Hall 1.1 of Messe Basel; others besides, such as Volta or Photo Basel. Add the museums of the region — the Fondation Beyeler in Riehen, the Kunstmuseum Basel, the Vitra Campus in Weil am Rhein, for illustration — then the dinners, often by invitation, and evenings beside the Rhine.

01

One week, several fairs

Art Basel is the centre of gravity of the week, but not its only address. Satellite fairs open at the same time, each with its own dates, tickets and personality. The table below lists a few of them, for illustration; each fair publishes its own calendar.

Unlimited and Parcours: the fair beyond the booth

Unlimited, created in 2000, fills an entire hall of Messe Basel with large-scale projects — installations, monumental sculpture, murals, video. You move through it differently from the galleries' aisles: more slowly, retracing your steps. Half a day is not too much.

Parcours, for its part, leaves the fair: site-specific installations, sculptures and performances in public space and in historic venues close to Messe Basel. It can be discovered freely, on foot, often in the late afternoon, when the city begins to breathe again.

03

Museums and foundations

The Basel region brings together institutions that often prepare their exhibitions for the week. The Fondation Beyeler, in Riehen, founded by the gallerist Ernst Beyeler, one of the founders of the fair, opens onto a park in a building by Renzo Piano; it can be reached by tram from the centre. The Kunstmuseum Basel, in the heart of the city, holds a reference collection. These places are cited for illustration; their exhibitions and opening hours are checked for each edition.

During the week, certain institutions and collections organise visits or receptions reserved for their guests. We request private visits where possible, subject to availability, without any guarantee.

04

The Vitra Campus: design, across the border

In Weil am Rhein, in Germany, a few minutes by tram from the centre of Basel, the Vitra Campus brings together a design museum and buildings by Frank Gehry, Zaha Hadid, Tadao Ando, Álvaro Siza and SANAA. It is a natural pause between two fair days, and an obvious choice for anyone who collects design.

We are happy to compose a half-day at Vitra and the Fondation Beyeler, with lunch, and a chauffeur who links the two without losing time — two borders in one afternoon, without a second thought.

05

Dinners, receptions, evenings

In the evening, the week takes on another face: gallery dinners for their collectors, private receptions in the city's houses and hotels, terraces beside the Rhine. These gatherings are usually by invitation. We pass on requests where possible, after reviewing the client's profile, without any guarantee, and tell you early what is realistic.

When no invitation comes, we create the evening: a private salon, a house rented to entertain, a table held facing the river, a chef and a sommelier, discreet security. The fine tables of Basel and its surroundings, in Alsace as on the German side, are booked early for the week.

06

A typical week, day by day

An indicative example, to be adapted to your dates and your type of access: arrival on Monday 14 June, Liste in the afternoon; the Preview Days on the 15th and 16th if you hold a VIP card, otherwise the Fondation Beyeler and the Vitra Campus; the fair on Thursday 17th, Unlimited and Parcours on the Friday; museums and a last dinner on the Saturday; departure on the Sunday. Each day keeps a quiet moment: beside the Rhine, at the hotel spa, or simply on foot in the old town.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

The week is organised around Art Basel, whose Preview Days take place on 15 and 16 June 2027 and public days from 17 to 20 June. Liste opens on 14 June and runs until the 20th.

Yes, each sells its own tickets, under its own conditions; an Art Basel ticket does not give access to the other fairs. We arrange their purchase in your name where possible.

Parcours unfolds in public space and in historic venues close to the fair; it is discovered on foot. Some venues may have their own opening hours, published by Art Basel for each edition.

For illustration: the Fondation Beyeler in Riehen, the Kunstmuseum Basel in the city centre, the Vitra Campus in Weil am Rhein, in Germany. Their exhibitions and opening hours are checked for each edition.

They are held by invitation, sent by the gallery. We can pass on a request where possible, after reviewing the client's profile, without any guarantee — and create your own private dinner if you wish.

Three to five days let you see the fair, Unlimited, Parcours and a few museums without rushing. A shorter stay remains possible by concentrating on the fair and one or two institutions.
